Which Springtime Gemstones Do You Like Best?

It’s official! Spring launched on March 20, 2023, and I almost missed it. 😅 Let’s face it, it’s easy to be distracted by coats, sweaters, fluffy socks, and hot teas inspired by cool temperatures. But now that it’s officially springtime, I’m going all in. And of course, I’m sharing my favorite springtime gemstones with you.

What comes to mind when you hear, “Spring is in the air”? Do any of these thoughts show up?

  • Rebirth, renewal, growth, and abundance
  • New beginnings, new life, new opportunities, and second chances
  • Hope, romance, and love
  • Blossoming flowers, fresh spring foliage, baby chicks hatching from eggs, and baby animals being born
  • Warmer weather, sunshine, longer days
  • Getting together with others for outdoor activities (hiking, riding bikes, cookouts/picnics, etc.)
  • Holidays/Celebrations (Earth Day, Easter, Passover, Holi, Ramadan, etc.)
  • Cute clothes and accessories (sundresses, shorts, sandals, handbags, and gemstone jewelry)
  • Spring cleaning or allergies 🙄

Hold onto these thoughts while we consider springtime gemstones – gemstones we can embrace for springtime based on their color, symbolism, or historical folklore. And just like nature shows up - multicolor, I’ll spotlight some multi-gemstone pieces too. Remember to check out the earlier 3-part blog series to review more gemstone background and history here – Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.

GREEN

Let’s start with Green – a very prominent springtime color because it’s linked to nature… grass, plants, leaves, and all types of lush foliage. This connection easily reminds us of growth cycles, renewal, and the circle of life. And by extension, we can include the themes of fertility, balance, prosperity, and even healing.

So, how many green gemstones should we include on our springtime list? Should we include the green Diamond, green Sapphire, green Turquoise, green Bloodstone, or green Zircon? The International Gem Society (IGS) describes 32 green gemstones, and maybe they all deserve a spot. However, let’s limit the springtime list to the ones that are the most accessible and durable. We’ll save the rare and lesser-known gemstones for another blog.

For the springtime list, I’d suggest Emerald, Jade, Peridot, green Chalcedony, green Tourmaline (aka Verdelite), and green Aventurine (another quartz). Wear one gemstone at a time - or style multiple gemstones and colors to celebrate this wonderful season!

YELLOW

What about Yellow? Did you immediately think sunshine and warmth – the uplifting and life-giving energy all of earth’s creations need? No wonder yellow gemstones are great for springtime! And just like with our green gemstone list, there are so many options to consider. Did you know there’s a yellow Garnet and a yellow Jade?

For our springtime list, let’s exclude the rare or expensive gemstones like yellow Sapphire, yellow Diamond, or even yellow Tourmaline. Instead, we’ll include Citrine (lemon quartz) and yellow Topaz (aka Precious Topaz).

BLUE

We can’t forget the shades of Blue that help us imagine beautiful and refreshing waves of sea/ocean water along the coasts of the world – another connection to our earth. In some cultures, blue is also a symbol of spirituality and there are several spiritual events tied to springtime. The IGS discusses 37 blue gemstones, including the blue Diamond and blue Moonstone. And you already know – we won’t include them all on our list (although the rare blue Jadeite intrigues me).

I recommend Aquamarine, blue Topaz, blue Sapphire, blue Tourmaline, blue Chalcedony, Labradorite, and Amazonite for our springtime list.

PINK

Pink is next… romance, new love, old love, second-chance love, springtime love. Who doesn’t get teary-eyed watching the spring Rom-Coms on the Hallmark channel? 💖 But pink is also associated with playfulness, fun, hope, and optimism. And when we see the pink-hued flower blossoms all around, pink is a shoo-in as a springtime color. And so are the pink gemstones!

Once again, let’s save those rare gemstones like the pink Sapphire for a different conversation, and focus on the more accessible choices. My suggestions for our springtime list are pink Tourmaline, Rose Quartz, and Morganite.

PURPLE

I’ll wrap up with the hues of Purple. There’s light to dark purple, with names like lavender, lilac, plum, violet, magenta, or mauve. And when you see blooming flowers like lavender, lilac, iris, hydrangea, and crocus – you easily agree that purple is a springtime color.

As for the gemstones, I’m excluding the purple Diamond and purple/violet Sapphire from our list, and I’m including Amethyst, Iolite, and Tanzanite.

Hopefully, you’re now inspired and full of ideas about your springtime jewelry accessories! ✨ Remember, descriptions of the magic and power of a number of gemstones can be found in several blogs right where you are now.
